Ok, so it has been a really long time since my last post, but eh, we have been super busy. Recently we flew to Seattle to scope out some apartments, July 12-15. It was amazing, it is 100 degrees here in Texas and we were wearing sweaters there. Needless to say, I am so excited! There is no turning back now. I just hope that we each find jobs soon. This week is my last week of work, last week in Texas, etc. Here is the timeline:

Monday, July 25th (today): Need to pack, pack, pack and take care of other things like getting cable at the new apartment.

Tuesday, July 26th: Continue to pack and clean. Need to clean my car.

Wednesday, July 27th: Need to drop off my car in Lampasas (or Memaw and Pop are coming to Bryan to pick it up, not sure which yet...)

Thursday, July 28th: Will meet Culligan people to un-install our filtration system, will pickup the rental truck from Budget.

Friday, July 29th: Last day of work, continue to pack everything into the rental truck.

Saturday, July 30th: Move Day! Finish packing the car and the truck, Pop will arrive in the morning to help. Need to drop off the internet modem at Suddenlink and drop off the house keys at management. Then we will start driving, on this day I hope to drive 508 miles (9 hours) and get to Amarillo, Texas.

Sunday, July 31st: Drive 676 miles (11 hours) from Amarillo, TX to Rawlins, WY.

Monday, August 1st: Drive 711 miles (11 hours) from Rawlins, WY to Baker City, OR.

Tuesday, August 2nd: Drive 387 miles (6 hours) from Baker City, OR to Seattle, WA. Arrive and start moving into new apartment.

Wednesday, August 3rd: Unpacking, etc.

Thursday, August 4th: Pop's plane leaves for him to go back to Texas!

Ah, ok, so we found out last week that our lease ends on July 30th and that the management is not going to let us extend it, unless it is for another whole year. So, on July 30th we will be turning in the keys and heading to Seattle. Are we ready for this? Are we getting in over our heads? Can you say "freaking out"!!!

Man, I have been putting off updating this thing. Since the 'Spring rush' at work has calmed down I have been 1) watching Tegan and Sara videos on youtube 2) stalking people and just generally spending WAY too much time on facebook and 3) attempting to write new songs (and failing). Now that I have come to a point where even my favorite things annoy me, I figured that I might just write about life. I mean, how can you even attempt to write a better love song than this:

Anyway, you sometimes just feel like there are so many talented artists out there, how could you actually write something better? Anything you write, any combination of words has already been done before, I guarantee it.

Lilly cut my hair last night, it was our second time doing this and I think it turned out rather awesome. Hopefully we will keep doing this for a while and I won't have to pay $50 to get my haircut every month!

Since my last post Lilly applied and was accepted to the University of Washington Masters of Library Science program so we are moving to Seattle during the first week of September. This is huge. For weeks all I have been doing is looking at jobs and apartments in Seattle and the communities north of Seattle. Since I am a very anxious person a move like this is really hard for me, but I am so excited. Things here are deteriorating in multiple ways for both me and Lilly, so I think this is the right time. We are planners and we are smart and I think we can pull this off without too many problems. We might end up doing it all ourselves (me driving the Uhaul pulling my car and all our stuff and Lilly driving her car with the cats), but I think that we are totally capable. That doesn't stop me from freaking out. I found an awesome job at the University of Washington that I am really excited about. The position is Research Coordinator in the Chemistry department on campus. I think that it fits my strengths and my background perfectly, so let's just hope that the people hiring think the same thing!

In the end though, I really want to find a job doing something musical. I would haul equipment for a band, I don't really care, but I am realizing more and more that music is what I am going to do with my future.

Sometimes you just feel 'stuck' and there isn't anything you can do about anything. I always feel like this when something is happening in the future. It is always, "well after [this thing] happens, everything will get better." When Lilly and I were still in school it was, "everything will be better when we graduate" so we just sat around waiting for graduation to come. Then it was "everything will be better when we move into a bigger apartment" so we sat around waiting until we were able to move into the 2 bedroom at West Villa Maria. Then it was "everything will be better when we move into the duplex on Berger." Now it is "everything will be better once we get to Seattle." But will it really be better? Some of the things we have done have made things better, but everything is still not 'right.' What if there is no 'right'? I feel like this is right, this is what I have wanted all along and have just been afraid to do. I hate it here for so many reasons, so things will be better, right? At least hopefully they won't be worse... As they say: are we jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire?

I've decided that I made this decision when I was 16, and although I never acted on it, nothing has changed. It's been 7 years in the making and I am finally making it happen. Even if things get worse, I will be living in a place where 85% of the people vote like me (not 15%), where the weather is way better and I can layer and wear jackets most of the year (here you die most of the year if you are wearing more than a t-shirt and shorts), where I will be 2 hours from Canada should something really, really crazy happen in America (who would want to 'escape' to Mexico?), no more Rick Perry!, more options in the musical community (but also more competition)...

Overall, I think that things are going to work out just fine...

We spent most of the day doing nothing, but decided to go out to Veteran's Park (in the freezing cold) to walk. This dog had been hanging around the house all day and when we got back from the park we decided to let him in the house since it was so cold. Lilly has dubbed him Fred and wants to keep him. Needless to say, the cats are very upset. I am hoping to find his rightful owners!

We spent the day running around doing random stuff. Lilly decided that she wanted to collect all of the puzzles in the Hometown Collection series, so we drove to all of the stores in town looking for them. She also decided that she wanted to buy a fancy high tech DSLR camera. That should be delievered on January 5!! So expect some really awesome pictures from her!

Ok, so the bass came in today! Of course, it didn't come until around 6:45pm so I had to sit around ALL DAY waiting, knowing it was on the UPS truck bouncing around. Needless to say I was going crazy...

But I was so happy when it finally got here. It was even better than I had expected!

So Lilly made me get up today at 7am !! On my day off!! We went and had lunch and spent most of the day with the Norrises. We made it back to Bryan around 6 and I had a pretty terrible audition with the band for a new singer!

The first day of winter. The hottest day so far this year... what? Not really, but it was really hot. Like September kind of hot. It was horrible.

So we shredded some newspaper because the lady at the shelter said that 'Stickers' liked it (that is Jade). Who has not even touched the newspaper? That would be Jade. Who absolutely loves to hide in it and play with it? That would be Darcy. Love him.

Jade was so good today at the vet! The vet (Dr. Dunn) in Belton said that she had the cat scratch disease bacteria and that she needed to be treated so we took her to our vet here in Bryan. He thought that the other vet was crazy, which was a relief, but it turns out she has ear mites, which is something the other vet overlooked. Much to our relief, she is pretty much totally fine. Jade and Darcy are now being treated for ear mites!

I won this last night at the Christmas Party along with $750. I guess I could have used this picture for yesterday, but I took this today and I am trying to decide where to hang the plaque in my office today!

So I am seriously still looking for that job... how much does living under a bridge cost? Would a part time job at walmart as a night stocker make me enough money to pay off my student loans AND pay for my guitar habit?

And that is why I still work at my current job.

I just spent all morning picking and choosing the things I would buy if a million dollars fell in my lap tomorrow:

--At least 3 new guitars ($3,000)
--A new pick guard for my current guitar ($100)
--A pedal board for my non-existent pedals ($80-100)
--A power supply for my new pedal board ($109)
--A chorus pedal and volume pedal and various other pedals for my new pedal board (at least $100 per pedal)
--A million pairs of jeans ($60 per pair)
--A really awesome PA system ($2,000-4,000?- I've never really shopped for one!)
--A turntable to play my records on
--At least two new large tattoos ($500)

Obviously, if I truly had a million dollars I would pay off all of my student loans and credit cards, move to Washington immediately (job or not) and probably get liposuction (I mean, why not?).

There are various other things that I need/want but they would become obsolete in the event of me having a million dollars (and quiting my job). Those things are:

--A new messenger bag (yes, one that does not say "Fall Out Boy" on it)
--New dress shoes (preferably women's oxfords)-- on second thought, I should probably go ahead and get new dress clothes... I will need them while attending the Grammy's with my band-- move this into the "will get with a million dollars" category.

And that is all I can think of right now. I'm sure Lilly knows more things that I really want but have forgotten all about. I think I will go write a song now.

I need a job where I work mostly at night or something. I hate working in the morning (on real work). I used to feel like I was most creative and productive at night but I think that is starting to change in my old age. I like waking up around 9am and going outside to sit in our backyard. That is when I am starting to feel the most creative. I definitely need to find a job that allows me to do that everyday so I can get some songs written...

So I've been busy since the last post on here. It's been nice. After we moved things got really busy here at work (where I normally compose my blog posts). I've been practicing with the band and trying to devote as much time as possible there. I feel that I can become a leader in the band; I am already the oldest and wisest. I just need to try to focus my mind and all of the little drops of creativity that I have in me in order to be able to contribute to the music. I have recently been writing and I think it is coming along. Some of the lyric doesn’t work, but I am ready to re-work it and make it better. And that is the point, isn’t it? And the music is almost there, I can feel it. At the very least I should be able to put together some chords that are all in the same key so that we can have a scratch track to build from.

On another note, how many times have I been interrupted by Jane since I started writing this? No less than 5 times.

So I’m back to the stretch between semesters where I have nothing to do at work. It is fun, I am able to complete everything I need to do for the day before 9am and then I have the rest of the day to shop for guitars, listen to new music and write little blogs like this.

So as I mentioned above, I am trying to write music, I might post a little on here. This I don’t know. Also, I might start doing Tuesday Tunes again next week. This is another unknown.

Right now, I am totally obsessed with Steel Train and fun. I would really love to go see them both in concert (hint, hint) here.

Ok, this song is so much fun to dance to, but it is even more fun when you are in the fray trying to actually perform it. The difficultly level is high, but the fun level is higher, so you have to jump around even if you screw it up. Notice Hayley drops the microphone right at the beginning and has to pick it up at 0:19, how fun is that?!?!? I want to write music like this, music no one get tired of and everyone loves to dance to.

Can anyone tell I am getting excited about Tegan and Sara and Paramore on September 8th!!!

I am writing this from the comfort of my own apartment. I took off work today to wait for the wonderful maintenance guys to come fix the air conditioner (which to them "we should be able to get to it today" means "ummm, yeah, that is never going to get fixed." Even though this is August in Texas and it should be around 110 degrees today, it isn't that bad here in my un-air conditioned apartment. Me and the cats have been chilling with the fans on and the one window with a screen open (see picture).

I am not at work, but I am working, because I have too much to do to just sit here and vegetate. The vacation hours that I am wasting on this little scenario aren't as annoying as the girls tanning by the pool right outside my window and their wonderfully intelligent conversation, consisting mostly of the words, "you know," "like," "whatever," and "OMG!"

This is one of my favorite songs from Sainthood and the video premiered Monday so I couldn't resist posting it on here. This song is very simple but it has a good point, and builds throughout. I think there is a point near the end where Sara is layered over herself 4 or 5 times. Tegan does not sing on this song on the album, by the way... but it guess it would be boring if she wasn't in the video.

I remember being introduced to the Smashing Pumpkins during a road trip to an away softball game in my freshman year of high school. A fellow teammate, Deanna Durham (?, I think was her name), was absolutely enthralled with them and she let me have a listen on her 128 MB primitive mp3 player. (This was 2002.) I was hooked.

I've always had my own beliefs and ideas without any precedents or examples. I think that maybe this song made me realize how alone I was in that regard. Something that has baffled me my whole life is how obvious it is that all religions are total crap, and how no one else gets it. I feel like Billy gets it.

Vans Warped Tour 2010

So remember this post? Well, I won that contest and I was asked to report on the goings on at the Vans Warped Tour in Houston:

July 2, 2010, Houston, Texas:

We arrived at the venue at 12:30pm, after two hours of driving from Bryan. It hadn’t started raining yet, and I was hopeful that the rain might be held at bay. As I was standing in line to pick up my ticket, the sky opened and the monsoon began. My waterproofed bag held my camera, two beach towels, my wallet, a notebook to write in and three pens. At that moment, I did not know that I would not get a chance to open my bag. After picking up my ticket, which was tricky because the guest list was all but ruined, I got in line to enter the fenced off ‘venue.’ The gates opened fairly promptly at one, despite the heavy downpour. I kept receiving texts from @vanswarpedtour saying that the show was still on. As we entered the venue, most people went to seek shelter from the rain under one of the tents, but we walked to the inflatable schedule and tried to memorize the times and stages for the bands that I wanted to see. First was You Me At Six on the Altec Lansing Stage, then Set Your Goals right after. The Rocket Summer was going to be playing on AP/Advent stage after that. The All-American Rejects were playing at the same time as The Rocket Summer on the Main Stage, but I made up my mind that I would rather see The Rocket Summer. Those were the only bands I could remember in one sitting, and it was still raining so it was futile to try to write anything down. We made our way over the Altec Lansing stage and watched in amusement as the crew tried to get the inflatable roof of the stage to stand up properly. Apparently the inflatable material was holding water and was weighted down. The band members from You Me At Six were even helping get the stage setup and as soon as the stage was ready, they began playing. The rain had let up a little, but it was still a steady downpour. We all enjoyed the show which consisted of a lot of songs from their new album.

If you’ve never been to Warped Tour before, it might be hard to imagine so many bands being crammed into so little time. Bands perform a 30-40 minute set with a 30 break between bands on each stage for setup and takedown. There are tons of ‘tents’ that sell merchandise, or ‘merch,’ and each one is from a different band on the tour, record labels or sponsors of the tour. There are also food stands and a skate board ramp. Today, the skate board ramp was closed and soaking wet… like the rest of us. Between You Me At Six and Set Your Goals, we decided to roam around and see where all of the other stages were. We went back and watched Set Your Goals, who really got the crowd going, even though it was early in the day. By then, it had been two hours since the rain started and everyone was soaked to the bone. Some people were shaking and turning blue! After Set Your Goals and their huge mosh pit, we walked over to watch The Rocket Summer on the AP/Advent stage. The stage was setup adjacent to the Glamour Kills stage where Alesana was playing when we walked up. As soon as they were done The Rocket Summer was ready to take the stage. Bryce Avery walked out with his guitar and explained that his keyboard wasn’t working, so he was going to figure out those parts on the guitar as he went along! It was great! He acted like such a badass as he played out those keyboard parts on guitar without having any difficultly. During the last song, ‘So, In This Hour,’ he jumped off the stage and ran through the crowd while playing the guitar solo. He was still playing as he made his way to the front and security lifted him back over the barriers! Seeing him is always a delight because he genuinely cares about his fans and puts on a really great show.

After Bryce walked off the stage, we went around to the Main Stage where The All-American Rejects were just finishing up. After they were done, we realized that we still hadn’t eaten lunch. By that time, we had been standing in the rain for four hours! We decided that was long enough and that our hands and feet were so wrinkled that they would never un-wrinkle. We decided to give up waiting for the rain to stop and just call it a day. The first Warped Tour I attended in Houston had been rained out and moved to the next day, where they moved it into Reliant Stadium. The second was so hot that I wanted to throw up after 2 hours of standing out in the sun. This time, it rained so hard and everyone was so cold, it was unbearable. That shows you how unpredictable Texas weather can be! I don’t know how anyone was able to stay for 9 to 10 hours standing in the rain! Those are the true, hardcore fans.

YAY! Tuesday tunes time again! I finally get to post the song that I wanted to post last week before I got distracted. I intend for this to be a very long and involved piece, so be prepared.

Lilly: watch it all the way until 2:32, I think you will like it.

I had a lot to say about this song, it stirs a lot of emotion in me. I used to hate that Sara wrote this, but she basically let Tiesto take credit for it. Either way, I have gotten over that and realized what a great song it is, especially when they play it live and acoustic... (that eliminates the Tiesto influence!) I love songs that can span time within one line. The songs begins with falling hopelessly in love very quickly and ends with the relationship ending in the same fashion. Mixed with Sara's wonderful insecurities and introspective thought processes; it makes for a wonderful mirror of my own relationships. I think we are similar in the way that we are too much in our heads. And also kind of OCD about things. Like to a freakish extent...

Anyway, I have gotten over my aversion to the techno version and I actually like it a lot now. It makes me dance in my office at work.

Submittion for AP Magazine/Altec Lansing Warped Tour Contest, June 18, 2010:

October 22, 2009: I was so excited I almost ran from the car to the venue. I had been in the car for two hours driving from where I live in College Station to the Warehouse Live in Houston. I was with two friends, but they didn’t have a backstage pass like I did, so I left them behind. Waiting outside the door to meet my most favorite musicians was torture. Finally, they opened the doors and five other girls and myself were ushered into a very tiny hallway were we were told to wait for the band. Eventually William Beckett and the others members of The Academy Is… came out to great us. William was cleanly shaven but was dabbing at the still bleeding nicks in his face. When I am nervous I am usually rude to people, so I couldn’t help but make fun of his shaving abilities. He still took a picture with me and signed my CD, so that was a relief.

When it was time for the show to start they let us have first pick near the stage but eventually the entire backroom of the Warehouse was packed. Everyone was waiting very impatiently for the bands of the first annual Alternative Press Fall Ball Tour to begin playing. First up was The Secret Handshake, then Set Your Goals and You Me At Six. I was already a fan of The Secret Handshake and You Me At Six, and seeing them live was a great experience. The energy projected by Set Your Goals made me an insta-fan. When The Academy Is… finally stepped out, and even though I had seen them 4 times previously it was like the first time all over again. William has such a great stage presence that you are completely wrapped up in the excitement. I believe that the Fall Ball Tour succeed in their goal to introduce people to new music. I know I found a few new favorites and I got to enjoy my absolute favorite at the same time! Thanks AP!

Ok, so I am really VERY slow on the uptake here, but aren't I always? I am really getting into Tegan and Sara... and here are just a few reasons why:

Haha! Funny story, Ophie and Darcy have both become escape artists, so now Lilly sits with them while they are outside. Since it is Spring again (why can't it still be Fall??) the bugs are starting to come back, so we were burning a citronella candle. The little boy was chasing said bug and fell into the candle... it's ok, he only singed a little fur on his tail!

If the EP 'Lost in Pacific Time' was a prelude of what is to come, I am going to love it...

Panic! At The Disco should be great this year (minus Ryan Ross) because Brendon's talent will finally be able to shine:

The Rocket Summer's new album already has a release date... less than one week away!

Also, (and this is total wishful thinking) that maybe Paramore can book a tour where they actually come to Texas!

blink-182's over hyped new album should be released this year... will it be good? This I do not know.

My Chemical Romance also has something in the works... Will they be able to top 'The Black Parade'... I don't think so!

Wow... I had not realized it has been more than a month since the last post... things have been busy, but that is everyone's excuse... right? I've been sick for the last week and Lilly was sick the week before that. But we still managed to add another kitty-cat to the family.... Introducing Darcy:

He (yes HE, not SHE) is super precious and exactly what we were looking for in our new addition.

Lilly decided on the name (as in Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice) before we ever chose a kitten and he would have been called Darcy whether he was male or female.

OCK has done nothing but disappoint me over the years... also, I just renewed my subcription like a week before this happened so now I get 3 more years (first year cost $40, this package cost $40 + $10 shipping) and I'm 'bout 100% sure the first year is now negated... also, who gives a shit? Fall Out Boy is over...

I have been nothing but pleased with Paramore and TAI though... They have a higher quality of content to their pre-orders AND they are cheaper (even though they are smaller bands!) FOB is just exploiting their so called 'fame.' The ONLY disappointment so far from either Paramore or TAI... Paramore's most recent tour did not include a stop in Texas :(

Damn it has been a rough month... new job... now that I actually work while I am at work, I have less time to search the web and post retarded crap on here. Since I drove about 500 hours today, I had a lot to think about and a lot to say, but now that I am here, at home, with a computer ... I don't really have anything to say. Sometimes while I am alone in my car, (or when Lilly is busy reading and ignoring me) I have very profound thoughts that I would love to write down.

For me, it is always what I can't have or can't do.

I have felt very out-of-the-loop lately. I do that sometimes... I concentrate so hard on one thing that I forget about everything else that I care about.

One of the most important thoughts I have ever pondered (and I may have posted it before):

In other words: The greatest gift would be to see ourselves as others see us.

I think about this daily. I try to live my life conscious of how other people see me... Not in a self-conscious-type way but in a I-am-not-on-this-earth-to-annoy-everyone-else-on-this-earth-type way. I live my life in a very do-unto-others-as-you-would-do-onto-yourself way. This is very important to me. I demand respect and I want others to look up to me. I hope I don't have to explain myself further. To me it is simple.

Live outside yourself, things that may seem so important to you, are mostly totally insignificant in the whole scheme of things. Maybe it is a little righteous of me but I strive to live in a large way... if you understand.

It has been a long weekend (Monday and Tuesday count as part of the weekend since today is my first day back in the office). I am working today and then I will be off again for another four day weekend!

I am not excited about the whole Thanksgiving thing (shoot me in the head, please) but I am excited about having my car put in my name on Friday (but maybe this is a bad thing... I may have to start paying for my own insurance!)

Also I am excited for the changes to come at work, hopefully next week will be an interesting week here in the office. Sometimes I feel like a camera crew should follow my office people around. They are really pretty interesting!

Sometimes I wish I worked at Dunder Mifflin because even Michael would be easier to deal with than the people I have to deal with...

A certain co-worker of mine (we will call her Abby) is mentally unstable, it is that simple. Our boss is, right now, in the process of writing and getting signatures for a letter of reprimand due to her erratic and just generally crazy behavior...

Today she says these things to me:
"I am going to warn [our boss] about how angry I am and that I am not going to pretend to be nice anymore"

"We have to get you off payroll... I hate to lose you, but..." (Translation: “I am so excited for you to leave”)

"Did you see that AA position in Chemical?" (Translation: “I am still so excited for you to leave”)

"You can have my job, I’ll quit," and I said "OK, go for it" and then she was like "yeah right" (Translation: “I hate this job, I am looking for other jobs, no one will hire me”)

"I am dizzy and nauseous all of the time (but I don't know what I have) and this is causing me to be particularly irritable today"

Also, she is so self centered that she thought that her asking for help is what prompted having another employee helping with payroll... in fact, it was put into that other employee's job description when she was hired to justify the need for the new position...
